If the messages section isn’t working as expected, the cause can often be narrowed down in just a few steps. It’s best to proceed step by step. This way, you’ll avoid making unnecessary changes and will usually be able to resume your conversation quickly.
Check the simple steps first
Before changing any settings in your browser, please check the following:
- Refresh the page once and open the ‘Messages’ section again.
- Make sure you are logged in with the correct account.
- In the overview, select the correct conversation and the relevant advert.
- Check that your internet connection is stable. If there is a brief interruption in the connection, the messages view may not load completely or a message may fail to send.
If you have already written a long message, copy it into a note before refreshing the page, just to be on the safe side. Unsent text may be lost when the page is refreshed.
I can’t type anything or I can’t see the message box
First, open a specific conversation in the messages overview. The input field is linked to the selected conversation and isn’t necessarily visible until a conversation has been opened. Also check that the page has loaded completely and that you’re still logged in.
If the text box is still missing or unresponsive, refresh the page. On a small screen, it may help to open the conversation fully and scroll down to the bottom. If the area remains blank, try the browser troubleshooting steps described below.
A message cannot be sent
After clicking the send button, wait a moment and do not click it repeatedly. Then check whether the message appears in your history. If nothing happens, check your connection and try again after refreshing the page.
If your text is very long, you can split it into several clear sections. Save the original text outside the browser beforehand so that it is retained when you try again. Do not send empty messages, and only remove unusual characters as a test if a specific error message suggests you should.
A photo or PDF file cannot be attached
Attachments can only be sent once the other person has replied to your first text message. If the paperclip icon is missing when you first make contact, this is therefore not a technical error.
If a reply has already been received, check the file format, file size and number of selected files. The message view currently lists the formats .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .tiff, .jfif, .webp, .avif and .pdf, as well as the limit ‘Max. 12 MB / 4 files’. If your connection is unstable, try uploading the files one at a time. Further steps and safety guidance can be found in the article Sending photos or PDF files in messages on suchen.expert.
Messages appear to be missing or the message history cannot be scrolled
First, check that you have actually opened the correct conversation. In the overview, several conversations relating to different adverts may look similar. Then refresh the page and wait until the message history is displayed in full.
Scroll within the actual message history, rather than only on the page as a whole. On mobile devices, it may help to reopen the conversation. If the history is not yet visible, this does not automatically mean that messages have been deleted. Therefore, avoid premature assumptions about data loss.
The message window remains blank
A blank window may appear if content has not loaded completely. Refresh the page, check your connection and reopen the conversation. If necessary, log out and log back in, provided you have your login details to hand. Do not close the page before copying any text that has not yet been sent.
Narrow down whether the browser is the cause
If the problem persists after reloading, update your browser to a current version. Then try opening suchen.expert in a private window or another current browser. If the messages section works there, a local browser setting, an extension or stored website data may be affecting its display.
Only disable extensions temporarily and only if you are familiar with how they work. Ensure that JavaScript and cookies are not completely blocked for suchen.expert, as otherwise important account functions may not work properly.
Clear your cache and cookies with care
Clearing cached data is a step to be taken later, not the first course of action. Where possible, start by clearing only the website data for suchen.expert. Bear in mind that this may log you out and cause any unsaved entries to be lost. Make sure beforehand that you know your login details and have copied any important text.
If you do not know how to remove specific website data, use your browser’s help function. Clearing all browser data indiscriminately may also affect other websites and is usually not necessary for troubleshooting.
When should I contact support?
If the error persists, use the contact form. A precise description will help with the investigation. State: - which device and browser you are using,
- where the problem occurs,
- what steps you have already tried,
- the exact wording of any error message displayed.
A screenshot can be helpful, provided it does not show confidential messages or personal data. Never send your password, confirmation codes or full payment details to support. Further instructions on writing and receiving messages can be found in the User Communication Guidelines section.
