The ‘Block user’ function allows you to prevent a specific person from sending you any further messages. This function is useful if you do not want any further contact or repeatedly receive unwanted messages.

How to block a user
Follow these steps in order:
- Open the conversation with the user you want to block.
- Click the three-dot icon in the top right-hand corner of the message window.
- Select ‘Block user’.
Before selecting this option, check that you have opened the correct conversation. This will help you avoid accidentally blocking someone else.

What happens after blocking?
After the block is applied, the person concerned can no longer send you any further messages. However, the previous message history remains visible to the blocked user.

When can blocking be useful?
Blocking can help you end unwanted contact. This may be useful, for example, if someone continues messaging you despite a clear refusal, puts you under pressure or repeatedly sends messages that have nothing to do with the advert.
You should also take your safety seriously in the case of offensive, threatening or suspicious messages. Do not respond under pressure and do not share passwords, confirmation codes, full payment details or copies of identity documents.

Report suspicious messages before blocking
If a message appears fraudulent, offensive or otherwise inappropriate, keep the context of the conversation intact for the time being. The details in the history may be important for a later review. Report the message concerned using the designated process and then block the user if you do not want any further contact.

Blocking and deleting are different functions
Blocking prevents the person concerned from sending you any further messages. There is a separate function for completely removing a conversation. The relevant instructions can be found under How can I delete the message history of a conversation?
Do not rush to delete a suspicious conversation. First check whether it is still needed for a report or an enquiry to support.

What if I want to remove the block later?
If you want to remove a block later, follow the instructions in How can I unblock a user on suchen.expert? For a separate explanation of how to check the block status, see How can I tell on suchen.expert if a user is blocked?
